But this mountain has much more to offer than just the view of the neighboring four-thousand-meter peak. The tour itself is a real adventure: it leads through untouched glacier landscapes and offers varied climbing passages that are both technically challenging and enjoyable.

    • Day 1

      Dinner at the Bovalhütte

      We meet for a delicious dinner at the Boval hut, discuss the day's itinerary and check our equipment.

    • Day 2

      Via the normal route to Piz Morteratsch

      From the Bovalhütte, we head steeply uphill in the light of our headlamps on the clearly visible hiking trail. Passing the climbing garden, we reach the start of the rock section. After a short, steep but easy climb in grade II, we reach the Fuorcla da Boval. We continue with crampons to the summit of Piz Morteratsch, from where we can enjoy a breathtaking panorama. The Biancograt and Piz Roseg are close enough to touch.
      The descent into Val Roseg is via the Tschierva hut. Here we can fortify ourselves for the last time before returning to Pontresina through Val Roseg.

    You need to be fit for a 9-hour tour and have previous experience of walking with crampons. You can also expect easy climbing in the I. and II. grade.

    You meet your mountain guide at 6 pm for dinner at the Bovalhütte SAC. You hike to the hut in around two hours from Morteratsch station.

    Morteratsch station is easily accessible by public transport. The Rhaetian Railway runs directly to the station. The stop is called "Morteratsch." By bus, the nearest stop is "Morteratsch, Abzweigung," from where it is a good 15-minute walk to Morteratsch station. From Morteratsch station, it takes about 2 hours to hike to the Boval Hut SAC.

    There is a large paid parking lot at Morteratsch station.

    We don't come out at the same place. We start in Morteratsch and come back in Pontresina. If you wish, you can shorten the way back by taking the carriage from Val Roseg.

    For group tours/courses, the minimum number of participants must be reached for the tour to go ahead. If this number isn't reached, we'll get in touch, and you can decide whether you'd like to cancel the booking or move it to another date. You also have the option of booking the tour with a private mountain guide (see prices below).
