Tinzenhorn 3173m south-east ridge

A lonely, sunny and impressive tour to the small Matterhorn of Graubünden.

    Tinzenhorn 3173m south-east ridge

Everyone who lives in Davos or goes on vacation in Davos would like to stand up there at least once. Even Thomas Mann described it as "unearthly, wallhall-like, inaccessible", in a word: "The Magic Mountain!". Because of its Toblerone shape, it is also known as "the little Matterhorn" in Graubünden. The route over the south-east ridge leads through steep, easy climbing, typical of the dolomite rock found there.

    • Day 1

Over the south-east ridge to the Tinzenhorn

We meet early in the morning, before daybreak, in Filisur. Together, we drive up the Alpine road toward Chamona d’Ela. We park the car 200 Höhenmeter below the hut and begin our hike southward.
Our next destination is the Pass digls Orgels, which we should reach after 1.5–2 hours. From the pass, we see the imposing 500-meter-high south face of the Tinzenhorn. After traversing a scree field, we reach the start of the route. We rope up and climb up the face to the southeast ridge. We continue upward on steep but well-gripped climbing, typical of the dolomite rock found there. Shortly before the end of the route, we traverse back into the wall, where the crux awaits us—a short 5b section that can be very well secured. A short time later, we reach the summit of the Tinzenhorn.
After a short break at the summit, we descend northward via the standard route in about 3 hours. There are a few climbing sections at the start, followed by scree slopes down to the hiking trail and back past the hut to the car.
